I talked with Nick a little last night. While the chat log itself isn't very interesting (the converastion was a bit haphazard), one important thing did come up -
The same sorts of deaths we have found in Negilahn are now occurring Dereno.
Apparently again, it isn't right around the Pod, but some of the other ResEngs have been exploring outside of the Pod (how they got there I have no idea) and found some animals torn up similarly to the reepah. Nick hasn't seen it first hand, so he didn't have many details. He'd just heard that, though, and was looking into it.
Doug should be back in a day or two, and we'll confer with him and see what the plan of action is. I'll letcha know when I know more! _________________ Those who dance appear insane to those who can't hear the music. - Mark Kleiman |

| Eerie. We don't have a good sense of scale on the map, but Negilahn and Dereno seem pretty far away. Long way to travel. Very different climates too, which must make this an odd creature... I wonder if we'll see its work in Payiferen. I hope not. |

That supports the "bacterial infection" theory (though I don't know if it's been disproven). If our presence is doing this, then it's likely that it's bacterial or viral.
Then again, it might have something to do with the smell-generators. If this is the first time that they've been operated in many years, it might have decomposed or something, and thus become toxic.
Or maybe Bahro? Do we know what they eat? (sorry if this has been discussed before).

This is fascinating news indeed...I can't believe this news didn't cause more of a stir!
Killings showing up in Dereno implies that the killer isn't Native to the Negilahn continent...that also means it is capable of surviving in Jungle and Arctic conditions...interesting news indeed! Something very odd is going on here, and I'm not convinced anymore that it's a natural predator...nor is it another animal. I think it's either human, D'ni or Bahro.
Odd that Sharper is MIA...his last few journal entries stated he was having nightmares from what he saw, and was going up to the surface for a bit...while I am concerned for him, I am also not impressed.
Finding out what is happening to those poor animals should be a top priority!

He also said he had some ideas. Maybe he's on the surface doing research - that could be why he's been gone so long.
He could also be gone so long due to the religious-related events of the past couple of weeks.
Don't know - just guessing. _________________ the journey begins again . . . |
