Aw, they're so adorable! I wonder if they are crustaceans, though - they have only four legs.
OOC:
They are more reddish than they were in Path of the Shell, I think. Just an observation.

The number four seems to be significant in the Ahnonay age. There are some other numerical significant examples in the D’ni universe that I can not recall at the moment. _________________ ~ sempler's shards ~ |

Four spheres, four legs on the quabs, four yellow lights on the inland face of the tower, four... what else...
As for outside Ahnonay, there's four pods, four bahro pillars, plus many other examples.
Wasn't five an important number too? _________________ Am I not Urwinny enough for the Urwin club?

It would appear that quabs are not only amphibious, but TRI-phibious! In the process of examining some quabs, one made a tremendous leap and vanished, yet the detector continued to show a quab in the area. I searched the ground rigorously, and then I happened to look up:
Quabs seem to be quite at home in the trees, as well as on the ground and in the water. Possibly they have wings hidden under those carapaces, though they may simply have extraordinary jumping ability. _________________ *SLMW 1.0* No animals were harmed in the production of this message. |

Wow...
Tree-climbing quabs?! Interesting... Well, there are species of crab that climb trees, like coconut crabs, so maybe this is a similar behavior.
Those legs do look pretty strong, and given the small, lightweight body, I suppose they can jump high when needed... _________________ Am I not Urwinny enough for the Urwin club?

Fantastic pic there, Brett M.! Looks like an alien of sorts
can they find something to eat up there? I've only seen them picking and scratching for food on the ground, even if it looks like there's isn't much to to find there?
Second (from foodpicking) behavior I've noticed is the 'watching' behavior - if one walk up to the quab and stops just as it notices 'a danger', it starts to 'spin' and stops foodpicking. It stays in that behavior until one walk closer, then it run away, jump, run away and stop. Or fall off the island if chased by a determined explorer
I 'had' all the quabs in the 'watching'behavior for 15 minutes - no one started the foodpicking again.
Another thing I've noticed is that they don't seem to signal each other of possible dangers

| The wiki entry for Quabs is kind of short. If it's all right, I'd like to put in some of the points raised in this thread. |
